Danny's Song is actually not a part of the songs performed by my band Eclipse at Keller Hall. So I am breaking my rules here, but I do include it as a song that was written at about the same time in my late teens early twenties. This song is particularly appropriate in that the assumption is the song is written from the point of view of an older man listening to me singing my songs. It feels prescient that across time I am now that older man. This song is one that was not rewritten at all, just re-recorded in the present. This includes a first attempt to write a song with a special tuning.

Here he is again
singing songs to me
Won’t he ever learn
I haven’t got the key

I cannot set him free
Though he may look to me for answers
Who am I
I just don’t know

Is this another controversial song
where he tells me what is right and what is wrong

He does not understand
It’s not a matter of
picking and choosing
when we’re talking about love

though he may wonder if I love him
